Closing the Digital Divide: Insights from the NITDA "DL4ALL" Pilot Training

📅 February 26, 2026

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Digital literacy is no longer a luxury; it is a fundamental gateway to economic independence and social justice. Recently, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in partnership with the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) and SIMBED, launched the pilot phase of the DL4ALL (Digital Literacy for All) initiative.

This program is a critical component of Nigeria’s "Renewed Hope" agenda, which aims to achieve 95% digital literacy across the federation by 2030.

THE MISSION: Why Digital Literacy Matters Now
The digital gap in Nigeria remains a significant barrier for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Current data suggests that a staggering 61% of women with disabilities in Northern Nigeria face immense challenges with basic computer operations. The DL4ALL pilot was designed to dismantle these barriers by providing hands-on, accessible tech education.

Digital skills are said to be the pathways to independence. The program moved beyond theory, focusing on practical tools that allow PWDs to compete fairly in the modern job market.

DADE Foundation: Bringing Knowledge Home
Our Programs Assistant, Paul Agatha Kuyet, was among the group of participants selected for this pilot phase. While the training was a national government-led initiative, DADE Foundation supported Agatha’s participation as part of our commitment to ensuring our team stays at the cutting edge of disability-inclusive technology.

Key areas covered during the pilot included:
Accessible Data Protection: Navigating the digital world safely using specialized accessibility tools.

Google Suite for Professionals: Mastering cloud-based tools (Docs, Sheets, and Drive) to facilitate remote work and organizational efficiency.

A Milestone for Inclusion
The atmosphere at the training was one of intense focus and shared purpose. Seeing the successful conclusion of this pilot gives us great hope for the future of digital inclusion in Nigeria. We look forward to seeing how the lessons from this pilot are scaled nationwide to empower millions.
